Members of high performing teams know what they have to do to contribute to team purpose. Clear roles and tasks in a team help everyone to understand their responsibilities and how to be successful. Who does what, who is accountable for what?

Your role as coach is to facilitate the team to identify the key processes it performs in service of the organisation, then identify who is responsible for each step.

This can be a struggle for a lot of teams as they haven’t done this work before – but is a key difference in our offering and will provide more clarity for the team. Don’t underestimate the process and allow enough time to tease out the key processes. Once they understand the process, this work can also be done offline as ‘homework’ to be reviewed in the next session.

Just like Effective Stewardship, this is a key concept and therefore has its own capability building session. 

Adapt HQ captures processes so it is available to everyone in their team. It also provides role clarity to those involved in executing the process. Those responsible for the team and the processes will need to be accountable for this.

Once the team processes and roles have been clarified, then more details can be fleshed out for each role.

  • What are the less tangible attributes and behaviours required to do this role?
  • What are the capabilities or skills required to do this role?
  • What are the primary relationships for this role?
  • Who currently holds this role in the team?
