Bringing a new person onto an existing leadership team is a big decision.
Once you are convinced they have the right attributes to be a contributing organisational leader, it’s a good idea to prepare a detailed and thorough process to induct them to the team. A good structure for this process is to take them through the ADAPT team model. This should be done by the Leader of Leaders or another member of the leadership team.
A suggested draft agenda is outlined below:
Check In |
Use this time to explore an important behaviour model such as Above and Below the line – watch the video together and share what triggers might cause you to go below the line. |
Team model |
Introduce the team model and give a brief overview of the six factors. |
Trust and psychological safety |
Explore the DiSC structure of the team and how their profile fits with the other profiles. Ask them to complete a leadership questionnaire and discuss their learnings. |
Alignment of purpose and values |
Take them through the team values. Run through the agreed strategy, including resilient business goals and bullseye and whatever else the team has developed. |
Effective Stewardship |
Go through team guidance. Make sure all the team meetings are in their diary too. |
Role Clarity |
Look at their role stack – are they clear on which roles they hold and their accountabilities? |
Meaningful Progress |
Share the results of the last team assessment and discuss. Explain the team’s and organisation’s objectives |
Accountability |
Talk through how the team uses Kanban boards and objectives to drive accountability. |
